Mike De Caro is an Italian filmmaker based in New York City. His goal is to make projects that combine entertainment, cultural resonance, and artistic vision.
After graduating from the University of Rome, Mike De Caro embraced his passion for cinema and moved to America, where he studied Film at Columbia University. In 2011, he was honored with the HBO Young Producers Award, and in 2012 with the Entertainment Partners Best Producer Award.
Mike has directed and produced several narrative and documentary projects, which have had the privilege of screening at prestigious festivals such as SXSW, Slamdance, Telluride, and more. His existential horror/heist film, Starving, screened at over a dozen festivals internationally and won Best Film at the Arcipelago International Festival in Rome in 2014, Italy's most significant short film festival.
Since 2015, Mike has led New Heritage Films, a production company and arts organization based in Harlem, where he produced several documentaries about the history, struggles, and achievements of minorities in America. His latest project, Driving the Green Book (2023), a documentary road movie, premiered at the 31st Pan African Film Festival and won the award for Best Documentary at the 13th People's Film Festival in New York and at the 27th Arpa International Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Mike is a lifelong Star Wars fan with a deep belief in storytelling’s ability to inspire hope and create change.
