"True See" Wins the Harlem Creative Award at the 15th The People's Film Festival

It is with great pleasure that I share the news that our documentary True See won the Harlem Creative Award at the 15th edition of The People’s Film Festival.

The screening at the Maysles Documentary Center was already a wonderful experience, and it was truly moving to see a full house connect with the film and support True-See’s journey as both a deeply personal and universal story.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this documentary possible.

'DRIVING THE GREEN BOOK' Screens at the 16th BLACK HISTORY FILM FESTIVAL

I’m thrilled to announce that Driving the Green Book has been selected for the 16th edition of the prestigious and highly competitive Black History Film Festival — one of the premier national filmmaking events of Black History Month, with only 10 projects chosen each year!

ABOUT 'DRIVING THE GREEN BOOK'

Broadcaster and author Alvin Hall and his two young mentees Chrissy and Jaron travel across Long Island (NY) looking for locations once listed in The Negro Motorist Green Book. They retrieve hidden stories about how Black travelers endured segregation during the years the Green Book was published (1936 - 1967) while also uncovering new subtle ways in which the issues continue today. Location after location, our road-trippers create an exciting, emotional and inspiring travelogue.

"Driving the Green Book” Wins ‘Best Documentary’ at 13th The People’s Film Festival

Alvin, Saro and I would like to share some exciting news about Driving the Green Book. We recently had our NYC premiere at the 13th annual The People's Film Festival in Harlem, just a few blocks away from where Victor and Alma Green ran the office where the Green Book was created.

The screening was a resounding success, warmly welcomed by the audience and even receiving a standing ovation. To top it off, Driving the Green Book won the award for Best Documentary!

SHORT DOC "WE THE CHILDREN" HITS SEVERAL NYC FESTIVALS

A short doc I produced and directed with Jamal Joseph will screen at the 10th NYC Indie Film Festival and the 14th Harlem International Film Festival this May. These screenings add to an already successful festival run that includes the New York Short Film Festival and New Filmmakers New York from last Fall among others.

'We The Children' is a short documentary about children's thoughts and feelings on politics. Sparked by the 2016 elections results, we witness how a group of children at a democratic school in Harlem responds to their concern about the direction their country might take as a result of the new Presidency. Through an ongoing journey that involves their own civic law education, community involvement, and activism, they ultimately question the general perception of children's limited role in politics and open the door for further discussion.
